Life of a Model

Lifestyle of a professional model

Becoming a supermodel is really hard work. It means putting in a lot of hours and working sometimes in less than favorable conditions. I know that with determination someday I too will end up on that list of women who have overcome many obstacles to achieve their dreams. I have also thought of myself as one who is not afraid to lea when necessary. Right now I do not mind taking notes and follow in others footsteps.

Many models have graced the catwalk and left a great impact but the one that lasts the longest in my mind is Janice Dickenson.

Even though she struggled to find a foot in the modeling industry, she was still able to become a supermodel amidst personal struggles. Today she has made a name for herself on the international scene. She gives back some of what she earns to charity.

What would it be like to become a supermodel?

A Supermodel's Dream Comes True

So somebody asked me recently when I am going to get a real job and stop dreaming of becoming a model. I wasn't surprised nor was I offended; many people do not see
modeling as a real job, that it should only be given a part time status. But did Tyra Banks or Claudia Schiffer cast off their modeling career as a mere part time hobby? Just like the way that they put in their hard work, so will I.

I am sure that one day I will be walking down the prized catwalks in Milan and Paris, gracing the covers of the most popular magazine such as Elle and Vogue. By then mentioning even the names of other models won’t seem so far-fetched as we would probably be rubbing shoulders, they trading beauty secrets while I listen and take notes because I know that I will be just as great as they are one day.

How to Become a professional Model

Do You Have What it Takes to Make it on the Cat walk?

Being a model is no easy perk. Some look from the outside and think that it is a lavish lifestyle that takes you places and makes you famous and what not. Not so. Being a model is hard work just like any other job. Like any other job the first thing you have to do is assess yourself to see what you are good at.

You are going to have to sell your strong points. This could mean you choose a niche that you would like to get yourself exposed in; what kind of model do I want to be? Underwear? Hair? Foot, whatever it is assessing one’s self is definitely the starting point. Next is to find the right model agency that suits your needs; you need one that will get you out there. Whatever you do, be prepared to work hard

How to Build a Model Portfolio

How do I sell myself as a Successful Model?

The first thing I did when I was starting out my model career is to build my portfolio. I wanted to put the best parts of me out there and getting my information all together was what I was advised to do. But I didn't want just any photos. I wanted the best, captured at my best angles- that required a professional photographer. The better he was at his work, the better images I will get for my collection.

The photographer does not work alone though because in order for me to look great in these photos means I will have to rely on someone other than my trusted cameraman.  In steps my makeup artist.  Again this has to be someone professional and knows exactly the kind of makeup I would need to better enhance my portfolio and sell myself.

Ensure that you schedule a photo shoot to capture your best angles wearing colors that complements you. The fun part is to go through the entire photos to choose which one you r using. The challenging part will be getting your portfolio seen and accepted by relevant agencies.

How to Choose a Modeling Agency for Yourself

Which Modeling Agency is best for me?

Not because a model agency worked well for someone means it will necessarily work for me. If I don’t take care and choose my modeling agency well then I will fail before I even properly begin. The first step is to compile a list of top agencies that I am interested in and who are more likely to have an interest in my work.
They have to be established and have already made a name for themselves in the modeling industry. This might sound unfair because I too is just a beginner and not giving another beginner a chance. But these are just precautions to protect me; I have heard that many model agencies these days are just keen on ripping off models even before they start working asking for upfront fees and other out of the box requirements. The best agency comes down to which one tries to mold you to climb to the top.
